A work-from-home household in a Victorian terrace with high evening use fitted a compact solar array and a right-sized battery so daytime generation carries them through the evening peak.

A common York terrace: limited roof, but a decent unshaded east-facing rear slope. Eight panels made the generation worthwhile, and because the household is busy in the evenings, a battery had a clear job to do.
We sized the battery to their evening demand and their expected surplus — 5 kWh usable, rather than the larger unit they’d been quoted elsewhere — so it cycles fully most days. Fitted in a day, with monitoring showing exactly how much of each evening now runs on stored solar.
The result
Most of the day's generation is now used in the evening instead of being exported cheaply. Grid import in the peak-price window has dropped noticeably.
