Solar PV on a Wakefield bungalow

A retired couple with high daytime electricity use fitted a modest, well-sized solar array on a clear, south-facing bungalow roof, with the wiring left ready for a battery later.

Single-storey roofs are close to ideal for solar: easy, safe access and usually little shading. This south-facing roof took ten panels comfortably.
The couple use most of their electricity during the day, so self-consumption is naturally high and a battery’s payback was weak. We modelled it, showed them the figures, and left the system wired so a battery is a simple addition later if their usage or tariff changes. Installed and commissioned in a day, with monitoring set up before we left.
The result
A large share of daytime electricity now comes from the roof, and the export payments cover a useful part of the standing charge. A battery can be added when the case for it is stronger.
