An off-gas detached home on an ageing oil boiler moved to a fully assessed air-to-water heat pump, with a heat-loss survey driving the radiator and cylinder specification.

The owners were facing another oil boiler replacement and wanted to understand whether a heat pump was realistic for a solid, reasonably insulated 1990s detached house.
A room-by-room heat-loss assessment showed the house was a good candidate, with three radiators needing to be larger for the lower flow temperature. We designed the system around that, fitted a hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard, sited the outdoor unit at the gable end, and removed the oil boiler and tank. The system was balanced and the controls explained on handover.
The result
Steady, even warmth through the winter and hot water from the cylinder, without the oil deliveries. The three radiators that needed upsizing were identified and priced before work began.
